PDL has installed hundreds of wellpoints in the past month to assist groundworkers with installing drainage runs. The changing geology and wet conditions necessitated a well-planned approach by PDL.

Project Dewatering had a busy few months, during which we were involved in various projects. The 4 projects outlined below are just a few of these but it showcases our ability to solve problems and our wide area of expertise regarding dewatering solutions.

Pumping and Treating a Large Volume of Water to Enable the Development of the West Midlands Interchange

PDL is managing the dewatering and treatment of 150,000 m³ of rainwater at a quarry site to support the West Midlands Interchange development. The project involves using diesel pumps and Water Treatment Systems to ensure compliance with environmental permits for flow rate and water quality.

Pumping test at a famous London Landmark

Project Dewatering Limited (PDL) were appointed by the client to undertake a pumping test at the famous Tower of London grounds. The purpose of the pumping test was to measure the yield of a historic brick-lined chamber.

PDL enabling dry excavations on various projects across the UK

PDL has had a busy start to the year, with various jobs across the UK keeping the team occupied. In the last month, the PDL site crew has been diligently installing and operating dewatering systems at various sites, four of which will be discussed here.

Rapid groundwater inflow through the base of a reduced dig necessitated prompt action from PDL. The system involved installing an external perimeter wellpoint system from ground level to alleviate groundwater pressure and reduce inflow. Once a dry working platform was achieved, deep wells were installed at a shallower depth to generate sufficient drawdown for constructing the proposed deeper excavation.

To facilitate the excavation of 4 no. culverts in dry and stable conditions, the client requested the implementation of a wellpoint dewatering system. PDL worked closely with design specialists to install a highly effective wellpoint dewatering system. The project was a success, experiencing no delays due to groundwater ingress. Wellpoint dewatering overcome significant challenges in Bedford.

The redevelopment project in Bedford involved multiple subsurface excavations situated below the groundwater level. PDL devised and executed a wellpoint dewatering system to efficiently manage groundwater, allowing for dry excavations while concurrently improving the soil’s shear strength. WELLPOINT DEWATERING TO ENABLE BULK EXCAVATION IN CHELMSFORD

In order to facilitate the development of five new dwellings and two basements, a perimeter wellpoint system was designed and implemented. BASEMENT DEWATERING IN GREATER LONDON

PDL is currently busy with 3 no. basement dewatering projects in the Greater London. Each project presents unique challenges, such as limited site access and difficult soil conditions, but we have successfully implemented appropriate dewatering strategies in all cases.

Project Dewatering support further development of Nine Elms

Design of a dewatering system to facilitate the development of a residential area in Central London. The project included drilling multiple deepwells, installing pumps and pipework, and implementing a groundwater treatment system.

Groundwater depressurisation to increase slope stability and prevent seafront erosion – Isle of Sheppey

Design of a groundwater capture system, drilling of abstraction and monitoring wells, design and completion of pumping tests, installation of permanent drainage and electrical ducting.

Open-Loop Chalk Wells – London

Drilling large diameter of chalk wells, carrying our well development and acidisation, undertaking dewatering pumping tests.

National Grid cable tunnels substation shaft – Hackney

Project Dewatering Ltd (PDL) was awarded the contract via Costain Skanska JV for the design, installation and ongoing dewatering system maintenance at the National Grid’s cable tunnels substation shaft in Hackney, East London.

Flood Alleviation Scheme Project – Marlow

Drilling multiple large diameter wells, undertaking pumping tests for the permanent installation of an area flood alleviation dewatering system.
